This independent news source is a key asset to highlighting all the amazing research being conducted by our professors at Texas State and aids in our path to establishing ourselves as a National Research University.
Why Write for The Conversation?
Articles published in The Conversation are made available to hundreds of news outlets across the nation through the Associated Press wire service. In addition to republishing, authors also benefit from increased media mentions, interviews, citations in scholarly articles, and collaborative opportunities.

What Does The Conversation Publish?
The Conversation publishes featured commentary and analysis written specifically for the general public. These are not opinion pieces, but highly researched articles written for the average reader.
Research papers are NOT accepted.
Article types include:
- Evidence-based pieces about current topics
- Articles highlighting engaging new research and its importance in society
- Evergreen “explainers” written on complex issues
Articles are typically 800 to 1,000 words or less on some occasions.

How Do I Join The Conversation?
Faculty members interested in writing for The Conversation should first create an author’s account. Once an account has been created, researchers can directly submit a pitch. Pitches should concisely explain why the story is important and its significance to the general public.
Please submit a pitch first before writing out a complete article.
Once your pitch has been accepted, you will work closely with an editor from The Conversation to draft and finalize the article. You will have final say on publishing when you are 100% satisfied with the piece.
What’s An Expert Request?
Expert Requests are story ideas that The Conversation editors are chasing. Faculty members can view these specific topics and connect directly with an editor if they are interested in writing an article.
